Families' Generosity Saves 80 Lives Through Organ Donation

The Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO) North organized Samarthan 2026, a CME-cum-workshop on organ donation and transplantation at PGIMER. This event celebrated the profound impact of donor families.
More than 200 delegates, including medical professionals and civil society members, participated. These families' selfless decisions led to saving 52 patients with end-stage organ failure and restoring sight to 28 corneal blind patients through transplantation at PGIMER.
The ceremony became emotional as the auditorium gave a standing ovation to acknowledge the courage of these families. PGIMER Director Prof. Vivek Lal, the chief guest, highlighted that the institute's transplantation achievements are built on the trust and magnanimity of donor families.
ROTTO Director Dr. Anil Kumar stressed the importance of fostering voluntary deceased organ donation to meet the country's organ demand. Health Ministry's Senior Regional Director Dr. Amarjeet Kaur also praised the families, noting their courage offers hope to thousands awaiting transplants.
