As part of World Obesity Day awareness week, observed from March 9 to March 14, a panel discussion at GIMS brought together specialists to address obesity and broader public health challenges. Health experts identified obesity as a primary risk factor for serious non-communicable diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular conditions. They pointed to sedentary lifestyles, poor dietary habits, and a lack of physical activity as significant drivers of obesity prevalence. The need for sustained public awareness and early intervention was emphasized.
During the event, marathon runner Sunita Godara was recognized for her contributions to promoting fitness and sports, advocating for exercise as an integral part of daily life. Officials from the Uttar Pradesh State Women Commission also participated, highlighting women's health awareness and healthcare access.
