Summary
- Nurse transformed her radiotherapy mask into a crochet artwork.
- She learned crochet during treatment as a distraction.
- The artwork serves as a reminder of beauty amidst hardship.

A critical care nurse, Juliette Beaumont, has ingeniously transformed her radiotherapy mask into a vibrant crochet artwork. Diagnosed with cancer at the base of her tongue in 2025, Beaumont underwent extensive treatment, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
During her seven-week radiotherapy sessions at Kent and Canterbury Hospital, Beaumont learned to crochet. She used this new skill to decorate her custom-fitted mask with crocheted flowers, finding it a positive distraction from treatment side effects.
Beaumont, who works at Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital, described the experience as traumatic but highlighted the importance of coping mechanisms. She recalled how a change in music during treatment significantly improved her emotional state.
She plans to display the decorated mask at home as a testament to finding beauty and resilience, even during the most challenging periods of her life. She expressed gratitude to the oncology staff, her partner John, and her supportive friends and family.
