NUH Unveils Advanced Orthopaedic and Microsurgery Centres in Singapore

As of November 17th, 2025, the National University Hospital (NUH) in Singapore has unveiled its new Orthopaedic Surgery and Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery Centres. These cutting-edge facilities aim to enhance patient experience by consolidating multiple specialist services, including surgery, consultations, pharmacy, diagnostics, and rehabilitation, under one roof.

The centres were officially launched by Dr. Koh Poh Koon, the senior minister of state for health and manpower. The relocation and expansion of these services are part of NUH's wider redevelopment initiative to modernize infrastructure and address the growing healthcare needs in Singapore's western region.

The Orthopaedic Surgery Centre focuses on treating conditions such as sports injuries and degenerative joint diseases, including osteoarthritis, which affect a significant portion of the population, particularly those aged over 60. It also offers advanced treatments, such as Singapore's first stem cell therapy for cartilage repair, led by NUH's orthopaedic surgery head and senior consultant, Professor James Hui.

The Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery Centre includes a day surgery suite with ultrasound and fluoroscopy, supporting early procedures. It provides 24-hour microsurgical services for upper limb, hand, and wrist diseases and trauma, and is a regional referral centre for limb replantation.

The Rehabilitation Centre, which is integrated with the surgery centres, offers a seamless transition for patients, with facilities like an indoor running and mobility track, and increased treatment capacity by more than 40% to reduce wait times.
