A commemorative plaque has been unveiled in Nottingham, honoring Dr. Margaret Glen Bott, a pioneering female physician. Dr. Bott qualified in 1915 and, facing societal barriers, found employment in Nottingham, becoming the city's first female surgeon.
Her career extended beyond surgery; she served as a magistrate from 1937 and a city councillor from 1939 to 1958. Dr. Bott also achieved a Fellowship with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Raised by the Nottingham Women's History Group through £945 in donations, the plaque marks her former residence on Regent Street. Dr. Bott, born in Bolton in 1891, was recognized with an OBE in 1961 and retired in 1968.
