Heating Fails at Mental Health Unit
13 Mar
Summary
- Mental health unit Grangewood experienced heating and hot water issues.
- Western Health Trust apologized for patient discomfort.
- Repairs were carried out, and the situation is being monitored.

Patients at Grangewood, a mental health inpatient unit located on the Gransha site in Londonderry, have been experiencing significant discomfort due to a malfunctioning heating and hot water system. These issues have persisted for a number of days, prompting an apology from the Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT).
While the trust confirmed that hot water supply was immediately reinstated, the heating system continued to suffer from intermittent problems. The WHSCT has stated that its estates team has performed necessary repairs and is diligently monitoring the situation to guarantee patient comfort is restored. This incident follows a separate disruption last month at nearby Altnagelvin Hospital, where a burst pipe temporarily affected the water supply, necessitating infection prevention measures.
