Noida Shivers: Cold Snap Triggers Respiratory Outbreak

Noida is grappling with a significant increase in respiratory illnesses, directly linked to the prevailing cold weather and recent rainfall. District hospital records indicate a daily influx of approximately 600 patients seeking treatment for cough, cold, pneumonia, and bronchitis.

Medical professionals attribute this surge to the irritant effects of cold air on airways, compounded by high pollution levels. This combination is triggering allergies and breathing difficulties, particularly affecting individuals with pre-existing conditions like asthma and COPD, as well as those with weakened immunity. Viral infections are also reportedly on the rise.

In response, the district administration has issued a cold wave advisory. Residents are strongly encouraged to minimize outdoor exposure, wear multiple layers of warm clothing, and cover extremities. Consuming warm fluids, maintaining a vitamin C-rich diet, and moisturizing the skin are recommended.

The advisory also cautions against ignoring symptoms of hypothermia or frostbite, such as continuous shivering and numbness. It emphasizes the need for immediate medical attention for severe symptoms and highlights the importance of extra care for children, the elderly, and isolated individuals. Shelter for pets and livestock is also advised.
