Two additional contacts of a 43-year-old Nipah virus patient were discharged from Kozhikode Medical College Hospital on Tuesday, June 16. Of those admitted, four have now been discharged.
Laboratory results for 13 people on the infected individual's contact list and 24 other symptomatic individuals have come back negative. Currently, 104 people remain on the contact list, while the initial patient is still on ventilator support.
In parallel, health and animal disease control officials collected body fluid samples from bats within a five-kilometer radius of the Ramanattukara Municipality, the infection's epicenter. Samples from domestic animals like dogs and cats, along with bat droppings, were also gathered for further examination. These samples will be sent to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal.
