Polio Drops Campaign Launched in The Nilgiris

An intensive pulse polio immunisation campaign commenced on Sunday, June 28, 2026, in Khandal Mukkonam, Udhagamandalam, located in The Nilgiris district. The district administration established vaccination sites at various government and private health facilities, including hospitals, primary health centres, and Anganwadi centres.
Special vaccination stations were also set up at border checkposts, tribal areas, and migrant settlements. A total of 821 centres are operational, aiming to administer oral polio drops to 48,140 children under five years old. Approximately 3,284 personnel, comprising health staff, volunteers, and Rotary club members, are involved in the drive.
Mobile vaccination teams are actively reaching out to children at bus stands, railway stations, and temples. Field staff will conduct door-to-door visits for two days following the main campaign to ensure all eligible children receive the crucial vaccination. The District Collector, Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, inspected several camps and urged parents to participate, emphasizing the vaccine's safety and WHO approval.
