NHS Trust Eyes 350 Job Cuts for £9.9M Savings
27 May
Summary
- Up to 350 jobs may be lost at an NHS trust.
- The trust needs to save £9.9 million.
- A voluntary resignation scheme is proposed for staff.

The North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust is planning significant workforce changes, potentially leading to the loss of up to 350 jobs. This measure is part of a broader initiative to realize £9.9 million in savings. The trust has opted to implement a voluntary Mutually Agreed Resignation Scheme (MARS) to facilitate these reductions.
This scheme, which commenced on May 11 and concludes on May 31, allows eligible staff to voluntarily resign in exchange for severance payments. Medical and dental staff are exempt from participating. The trust, which manages Peterborough City Hospital, Hinchingbrooke Hospital, and Stamford and Rutland Hospital, stated that this decision is a necessary step to align with the NHS 10 Year Plan and commissioner expectations.
Chief executive Hannah Coffey emphasized that the trust must "reshape" its operations and workforce structure to ensure the continued provision of safe, high-quality care in a sustainable and affordable manner. Patient safety remains the paramount concern throughout this process, with a commitment to adequately support and communicate with staff.
