Disgraced surgeon Anthony Dixon has incurred nearly £20 million in NHS compensation payouts for injuring over 450 patients through botched treatments. Dixon, 65, was struck off last year after tribunals found him guilty of misconduct, including using surgical mesh without informed consent and fabricating patient records.
These substandard procedures, carried out at Bristol's Southmead Hospital and private facilities, left many patients with life-altering conditions, including the need for colostomy bags. One patient tragically died by suicide following agonizing pain after Dixon removed her ovaries during a procedure.
NHS Resolution has paid £19.12 million to 245 claimants. Civil claims, which began in 2017, are still being processed in the High Court, with some couples filing claims as recently as last month. Compensation secured by law firms has reached seven figures in some cases, with the total bill expected to rise.
