The National Health Service is introducing a new era of digital healthcare with the upcoming launch of NHS Online hospitals, set to begin serving patients next year. This innovative service will allow individuals, after referral from their General Practitioner, to consult with specialists remotely through video calls via the established NHS app. The primary goal is to expedite access to specialized medical advice and reduce lengthy waiting times for numerous patients across the country.
Initially, the NHS Online service will address nine common conditions. These include crucial women's health issues such as severe menopause symptoms and menstrual problems, alongside prostate concerns like enlargement and elevated PSA levels. Patients suffering from eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration, will also benefit. Furthermore, support will be available for other difficult conditions like iron deficiency anaemia and inflammatory bowel disease.
