The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is preparing to release the latest National Family Health Survey (NFHS-6) data in the near future. This significant survey, conducted across 6,79,238 households in India during 2023-24, aims to provide comprehensive insights into the nation's health landscape.
For the first time, the International Institute for Population Sciences in Mumbai has managed all aspects of the NFHS-6 survey. The collected data offers detailed national and district-level information on fertility, mortality, and family welfare indicators, supporting evidence-based policymaking and program management.
NFHS-6 embraced a fully digital approach for data collection using Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) software. This method enhances real-time error detection and data scrutiny, ensuring the reliability of the findings for tracking health trends and assessing progress.
Previous rounds, like NFHS-5 (2019-21), have provided valuable insights into India's demographic and health indicators, including improvements in sex ratio and women's empowerment, while also highlighting persistent challenges like domestic violence and unmet contraceptive needs.
