Summary
- 28-year-old Chelsea Shields battles functional neurological disorder
- Symptoms began 5 days after her wedding, leaving her partially blind
- Now relies on crutches and takes 20 tablets per day

In a shocking turn of events, Chelsea Shields, a 28-year-old woman from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, woke up partially blind just 5 days after her dream wedding to her husband Connor, 34. This marked the beginning of a harrowing ordeal as Chelsea was diagnosed with a complex condition known as functional neurological disorder (FND).
Chelsea's nightmare started when she suddenly lost vision in her right eye, followed by further deterioration in her left eye. Doctors initially suspected multiple sclerosis, but after extensive tests and scans, she was finally diagnosed with FND - a disorder that affects how the brain sends and receives signals to the body. Chelsea's symptoms quickly escalated, leaving her unable to walk, in excruciating pain, and requiring a catheter at just 28 years old.
Despite the severity of her condition, Chelsea has remained determined to raise awareness about FND. She has started a Facebook page to document her daily struggles, from medication routines to the impact on her mental and physical well-being. Chelsea, who now relies on crutches and takes around 20 tablets per day, has gone from being a "fully functional mom of three to feeling like a 90-year-old." Her goal is to help others battling the same illness and push for better understanding of this often misunderstood disorder.
