Newborn Dies After 15-Hour Ventilator Hunt
3 Jul
Summary
- Newborn died after a 15-hour search for a ventilator.
- Family sought care across multiple hospitals in Hisar and Rohtak.
- Health department promises investigation into the incident.
A newborn lost their life after a grueling 15-hour ordeal on Wednesday and Thursday, as the family desperately sought an available ventilator. The infant, born at Hisar Civil Hospital to a 26-year-old mother, developed breathing complications shortly after birth.
Family relatives reported that the hospital's sole ventilator was occupied, necessitating a transfer to other facilities. A referral to PGIMS-Rohtak, approximately 100km away, proved unfruitful due to unavailability of ventilator support at that time.
After an overnight wait, the family returned to Hisar, attempting to admit the child to a private hospital where the infant was tragically declared dead upon arrival. Relatives are demanding an inquiry, convinced that timely access to critical care could have saved the baby's life.
