This substance, scientifically known as N-propionitrile chlorphine, poses an extreme overdose risk due to its incredible strength, with even trace amounts proving lethal.
The Drug Enforcement Administration's San Francisco Field Division has reported its presence in Northern California, while in eastern Tennessee, the Knox County Regional Forensic Center documented its detection in 41 deaths by early April. This alarming trend is compounded by the fact that reversing an overdose from cychlorphine often requires multiple doses of naloxone, commonly known as Narcan.
Reports suggest cychlorphine may have originated in China in 2024, quickly moving to Europe before appearing in the United States, possibly first in Florida, later in 2024. The Center for Forensic Science Research and Education has tracked its detection since mid-2024, with toxicology reports confirming its presence in at least eight U.S. states and several Canadian provinces, indicating a widespread and ongoing threat.
