Summary
- A new daily tablet, Fezolinetant, offers non-hormonal relief for hot flushes.
- NICE has approved the medication for NHS prescription to suitable patients.
- The treatment blocks specific nerve pathways triggering menopausal symptoms.

A new non-hormonal daily tablet, Fezolinetant, has received approval from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for prescription on the NHS. This development is anticipated to offer significant relief to around 500,000 menopausal women experiencing hot flushes and night sweats.
The treatment, also known as Veoza, operates by blocking specific nerve pathways in the brain that trigger these common menopausal symptoms. It is intended for individuals for whom traditional hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is not a suitable option, either due to existing medical conditions like a history of blood clots, or personal preference.
NICE has confirmed that fezolinetant can meaningfully reduce symptoms and has been found to be cost-effective. Regular liver function monitoring will be required for patients taking the treatment. This new option provides much-needed relief and expands treatment choices for women unable to use HRT.
