15 Jan
Summary
- New £18m diagnostic centre aims to reduce long NHS waiting lists.
- Facility will deliver an estimated 65,000 tests annually.
- It features advanced equipment like CT, MRI, and ultrasound scanners.

Health minister Stephen Kinnock recently inaugurated a new £18 million diagnostic centre in Hereford, a facility expected to alleviate lengthy NHS waiting lists.
The Wye Valley Community Diagnostic and Treatment Centre is equipped with advanced technology, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, and X-ray suites, capable of diagnosing a wide range of illnesses. This development aims to provide state-of-the-art diagnostics closer to where patients live, making it easier for them to access essential tests without disrupting work or family commitments.
This initiative is part of a national effort to establish 170 similar centres across the country, all designed to speed up diagnosis and improve patient care. The centre, which had a soft launch in September and is now fully operational, has already seen over 8,000 referrals, underscoring its critical role in easing pressure on existing hospital diagnostic departments.
