A £5million GP surgery is planned for Barnwood, Gloucester, transforming the former Jordan's Brook House children's home. The building will be demolished to make way for a new two-storey medical centre, which will also include 10 new residential homes.
Councillors unanimously approved the development proposals for the former council services building. The new facility will house seven GPs, four nurses, two healthcare assistants, six receptionists, administrative staff, and managers.
Local residents and officials have strongly supported the project, noting the current surgery is inadequate. The new centre is expected to provide better working conditions, enable minor surgical operations, and offer improved facilities for both patients and staff, addressing a long-standing need for enhanced health infrastructure in east Gloucester.
