New Health Hub to Slash Waiting Lists
15 Apr
Summary
- A new £11m health building will be constructed in West Swindon.
- The facility will house new MRI, CT scanners, and audiology equipment.
- This expansion aims to reduce diagnostic waiting times and hospital pressures.

A substantial investment of over £11 million in government funding is being allocated for the construction of a new health building in West Swindon. This facility will be located adjacent to the existing Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC).
The new building will be equipped with state-of-the-art MRI and CT scanners, alongside audiology equipment designed to treat conditions such as hearing loss and tinnitus.
Health minister Karin Smyth MP highlighted that this expansion is a crucial part of a broader strategy to reduce lengthy waiting lists, noting that diagnostic delays constitute a significant portion of these waits. CDCs are designed to be calmer, more accessible environments than traditional hospitals.
Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust anticipates that the new CDC will enable thousands of additional patients to receive diagnostic checks, scans, and tests conveniently and promptly within their local community. This move also aims to alleviate pressure on main hospital services.
