Neurologist's Stroke Warning: 3 Habits to Avoid
11 Mar
Summary
- Avoid massage guns on the neck due to artery injury risks.
- Do not hyperextend your neck for extended periods.
- Refrain from popping pimples in the 'triangle of death'.

A neurologist has shared three practices he personally avoids to mitigate stroke risk, based on rare but serious cases he has encountered. These habits, while seemingly minor, can have significant consequences for brain health.
The first practice involves avoiding the use of massage guns on the neck. The carotid and vertebral arteries in the neck supply blood to the brain. Aggressive use of massage guns in this area can potentially tear these arteries, leading to clot formation and stroke, or dislodge existing plaques.
Secondly, the neurologist advises against prolonged neck hyperextension. This position can compress the vertebral arteries, reducing blood flow to the brain. This phenomenon is so recognized it has a specific name: 'beauty parlour stroke syndrome,' associated with extended neck positions during hair washing.
Finally, the expert strongly discourages popping pimples, especially in the 'triangle of death' – the area from the nose bridge to the corners of the mouth. Infections in this region can spread to deeper veins connected to the brain, potentially causing dangerous clots or infections, and in rare instances, a stroke.
