On International Epilepsy Day, District Collector Himanshu Shukla inaugurated a new toll-free helpline, 1800-424-0060, specifically for epilepsy patients in Nellore. The launch event took place at Narayana Hospital and included an awareness program for medical students.
Collector Shukla highlighted the collective responsibility to spread awareness about epilepsy beyond medical circles, urging society to respond to the condition with the same empathy as a personal family issue. He stressed the importance of community support.
Narayana Medical College Dean Dr. P. Srinivasulu Reddy noted that International Epilepsy Day is observed annually on the second Monday of February. He stated that approximately 10-12 million people in India live with epilepsy, making the new district helpline a crucial resource.
