Pregnant Woman Dies After Injection; Hospital Negligence Alleged

In Navi Mumbai, the family of a 23-year-old pregnant woman has alleged negligence at NMMC's Rajmata Jijau Hospital in Airoli, leading to the death of the woman and her unborn child. The incident occurred on July 1, following a standard pre-delivery injection administered to the eight-month pregnant patient, Sonam Dongre.
Another eight-month pregnant patient, Richa Mishra, also developed critical complications after receiving two pre-delivery injections at the same facility. She was subsequently transferred to Fortis Hospital, Vashi, for ventilatory support but has since shown improvement and is reportedly off the ventilator.
Following separate protests, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) announced the suspension of the gynecologist at the Airoli hospital. A high-level inquiry committee, comprising doctors from JJ Hospital and other medical bodies, has been instituted to investigate the circumstances surrounding these adverse events.
The NMMC has also ordered a halt to the use of the specific injections administered. The inquiry committee is expected to submit its report within 15 days, after which further action will be determined. The suspended gynecologist's suspension is in effect until the inquiry concludes.
