MRD Test Predicts Survival in Colorectal Cancer

Summary
- Signatera MRD test predicted overall survival from adjuvant chemotherapy.
- MRD-positive patients showed improved survival with chemotherapy.
- MRD testing is a growing tool in precision oncology.

New data published in JAMA Oncology indicates Natera's Signatera molecular residual disease (MRD) test can predict overall survival (OS) benefits from adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) in patients with resected colorectal liver metastases (CRLM). The study, which analyzed 298 patients from the GALAXY trial, found that MRD-positive individuals who received ACT experienced a significant improvement in OS.
Conversely, no survival benefit was observed for MRD-negative patients treated with ACT. This finding is crucial as it provides clinicians with a tool to identify patients most likely to benefit from further treatment after surgery. The research underscores the growing importance of MRD testing in precision oncology for personalizing cancer care.
This advancement follows significant investments in MRD testing, with companies like CareDX and Roche expanding their capabilities. The study's findings were presented at the 2026 European Society for Medical Oncology Gastrointestinal Congress in Munich, Germany, from July 1-4. Natera's work represents a key step in optimizing treatment strategies for CRLM patients.
