22 Aug
Summary
- Nashik reported 57 swine flu cases from Aug 1-20, a significant increase.
- Five deaths are linked to swine flu this year, three in July and two in Aug.
- Persistent rainfall and cooler temperatures are blamed for the rising cases.

Nashik city is facing a significant outbreak of swine flu, with 57 infections recorded between August 1 and August 20. This dramatic rise follows only seven cases in the first six months of the year, with numbers increasing to 21 in July before the August surge. The total number of swine flu cases in Nashik since January 1 has reached 85.
Officials report that five deaths have been linked to swine flu this year. Three of these fatalities occurred in July, and two in August. While three deceased patients were from rural Nashik district, the other two were city residents. All deceased patients had underlying health conditions, according to health authorities.
The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) attributes the escalating cases to recent persistent rainfall and a drop in temperatures. An advisory has been issued, urging citizens, especially senior citizens and those with comorbidities like diabetes or respiratory ailments, to take preventive measures and seek medical help for flu-like symptoms.
Health officials are closely monitoring the situation and have directed hospitals to remain vigilant for seasonal influenza-like illnesses. They emphasize that public awareness and timely precautions are crucial, advising individuals with symptoms such as fever, cough, or sore throat to consult a doctor immediately without self-medicating.
