Infant Formula Recalled Amid Botulism Outbreak
15 Jun
Summary
- Three infants diagnosed with botulism after consuming Nara Organics formula.
- Formula distributed nationally in Target stores and online from July 2025 to June 2026.
- Parents urged to stop use and monitor for severe infant botulism symptoms immediately.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating a multistate outbreak of infant botulism, prompting a voluntary recall of Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Powdered Infant Formula. Three infants in California, Pennsylvania, and Washington were diagnosed with toxin type A infections in April or May after consuming the product.
This formula was distributed nationally from July 2025 through June 2026 via Target retail stores, Target.com, and Nara.com. The FDA has urged parents to immediately stop using the affected formula and to seek emergency medical care if their baby exhibits symptoms of infant botulism, such as vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, poor feeding, weak crying, or drooping eyelids.
Nara Organics, based in New York City, agreed to the recall following the FDA's notification. Infant botulism is a severe, potentially fatal illness caused by bacterial spores colonizing an infant's intestinal tract. Health officials are treating this situation with high urgency and are testing leftover samples from affected households.
