Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently reviewed the progress of development works at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) in Nagpur. The state government has allocated approximately Rs 1,000 crore for the modernization and infrastructure upgrade of these two key medical institutions.
During his visit, Fadnavis inspected critical care units like the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at GMCH, inaugurating a new ventilator unit. He also reviewed the operation theatre and surgical ICU, directing officials to ensure high-quality standards.
At IGGMCH, also known as Mayo, Fadnavis assessed ongoing projects, including a proposed 600-bed medicine complex, new Outpatient Department (OPD) facilities, and improved residential infrastructure for students and staff. The modernization plan for GMCH includes advanced medical technology such as a cardiac cath lab, nuclear scan system, and a robotic surgery unit.
Fadnavis urged officials to expedite all ongoing projects to ensure their timely completion within the approved budgets and timelines. The comprehensive Rs 1,000 crore revamp will cover patient care, critical care, academic, and residential facilities at both institutions.
