Nagpur Battles Heat: "Cold Wards" Open as Temperatures Soar

Nagpur is implementing its heat action plan as temperatures continue to rise, with 38 cases of heat-related illnesses already recorded. Eleven government health facilities have been equipped with "cold wards" to manage the influx of patients. The city has also focused on supporting vulnerable populations, relocating 50 homeless individuals to shelter homes, which are now near full capacity.

To mitigate the impact of the heat, work schedules have been adjusted, including revised shifts for sanitation workers until June 15 and traffic signals operating in blinker mode during afternoons. School timings have also been shortened. Residents are strongly advised to avoid going outside between noon and 4 PM and to use protective measures when outdoors.

The health department emphasizes hydration, recommending water and other fluids, with particular concern for children, seniors, and pregnant women. Health centers are directed to maintain adequate supplies of medicine and facilities as the city prepares for the hottest period of summer. Citizens experiencing symptoms like dizziness, vomiting, or headache should seek immediate medical attention.
