Summary
- Seven deaths reported in Adenzai villages over two weeks.
- Residents demand medical teams to investigate a febrile illness.
- District health official notes preliminary findings are inconclusive.
Health authorities have initiated an investigation into a perplexing febrile illness affecting several mountainous villages in Adenzai tehsil. Reports indicate seven fatalities, comprising six children and a woman, occurred over the last two weeks. Residents from Khanpur, Asbanr, and surrounding villages have voiced alarm over high fever, breathing difficulties, and other severe complications, leading to some patients being transferred to distant hospitals.
Local communities are imploring the provincial health department and district administration to deploy medical teams to ascertain the cause of the illness and set up emergency medical facilities. Despite these concerns, the district health officer stated that initial assessments do not conclusively link all reported deaths to a singular outbreak. He clarified that some fatalities involved premature births, while other individuals were treated for meningitis or tuberculosis.
However, reports of an acute febrile illness, potentially a zoonotic disease, have been received from Bochakay village. Health teams have visited the area to collect samples for laboratory analysis, and precautionary anti-dengue and anti-malaria spraying has been conducted. A joint investigation team, formed under the directives of the deputy commissioner, is further examining the situation in the affected villages.
