A mysterious illness has resulted in the deaths of 37 Jamunapari goats at the Bhadawari Buffalo and Jamunapari Goat Breeding Centre in Etawah. This alarming situation has raised concerns within the animal husbandry department as extensive laboratory tests have failed to pinpoint the cause.
Procured in March, the goats began exhibiting symptoms of respiratory distress, persistent coughing, and severe lung complications in June. The condition spread quickly, leading to the loss of 37 animals within a month. Both male, female, and young goats were affected.
Samples sent to the Mathura Research Centre and IVRI, Bareilly, tested negative for any specific virus or infectious disease. Postmortem examinations suggested Mycoplasma infection or other respiratory ailments, but laboratory results could not confirm these. Five female goats remain unwell and have been isolated, with officials intensifying surveillance.
