A piece of land previously serving as a garbage dumping site in Mylapore has been revitalized into a modern women's gym. This initiative by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) was inaugurated on July 8, 2026, transforming the neglected space into a community asset. The project, costing ₹80 lakh, utilized funds from the Mayor's and Councillor's budgets.
The new gym, located in Ward 126, is strategically positioned near Santhome High Road, aiming for high accessibility. It operates during two key periods: 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. These hours are designed to accommodate both early-morning fitness enthusiasts and those needing a later workout.
Fitness enthusiasts have lauded the facility. A teacher from the adjacent Corporation school highlighted the transformation of the site and the convenience of having the gym nearby. Local residents also appreciate the gym as a valuable, affordable fitness option. The facility boasts dedicated weight training and strength sections, several cardio machines, dumbbells, and benches, along with yoga mats for holistic wellness practices.
