Mumbai Restaurant's License Suspended Over Foul Food Practices

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food license of Gallops restaurant, a well-known establishment at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse in Mumbai. This action was taken immediately following an inspection that revealed numerous serious violations concerning food safety and hygiene. Officials documented significant issues, including ice contaminated with blood and ketchup stains from non-vegetarian items, and raw ingredients stored in damaged packaging.

The inspection also uncovered substantial hygiene problems within the kitchen. These included grease accumulation, deteriorating walls, poorly covered drainage systems, and the presence of live cockroaches and ants, alongside stagnant water. Furthermore, the restaurant was found to be non-compliant with regulations regarding the health of its food handlers, lacking proper records of their annual medical examinations and vaccinations.

In related actions, the FDA also took measures against other food businesses. Gurukrupa Dairy Products in Malad (East) is under investigation for alleged adulteration, with evidence suggesting the blending of oils and fats to create counterfeit ghee. Rats and cockroaches were also observed at this dairy premises. Additionally, Gufran Seekh Corner in Versova was found operating without a valid license, while Dreamer Hospitality and Mirari in Bandra West faced action for hygiene-related issues.
