The precinct, which includes the 2,250-bed King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEM), Nowrosjee Wadia Hospital, Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children, and Tata Memorial Hospital, experiences overwhelming crowds and related chaos.
An extensive survey has been completed by the F-South ward to lay the groundwork for a decongestion plan. This initiative will involve rationalizing entry and exit points, potentially introducing one-way traffic, and redesigning junctions to improve vehicular movement.
Key aspects of the revamp include managing encroachments by removing illegal structures and designating zones for hawkers. Stricter enforcement of no-parking rules and the creation of alternative parking facilities are also planned to improve public convenience and order.
A crucial element of the overhaul is the establishment of an obstruction-free corridor for ambulances, ensuring swift access for emergency services. Additionally, a dedicated waiting zone for patients' relatives will be incorporated into the design.
