Mumbai Sees 3 Organ Donations in 24 Hours
9 Feb
Summary
- Three organ donations occurred in Mumbai over a 24-hour period.
- These donations provided vital organs and tissues for transplants.
- Despite recent donations, over 4,800 patients await life-saving organs.

Mumbai saw a significant increase in organ donation activity, with three cadaver donations occurring within a single 24-hour period on February 7 and 8. These events provided multiple organs and tissues, including kidneys, livers, corneas, and skin, offering critical aid to patients awaiting transplants.
These recent donations have contributed to a total of 10 deceased organ donations in Mumbai so far this year, leading to 20 successful transplants. However, the stark reality is that 4,871 individuals remain on the waiting list for life-saving organs. Another donation process is currently underway in Dombivli, with further details pending.
One notable donor was Sachin Pujara, 48, whose family supported his decision to donate organs after he was admitted to Hira Mongi Navneet Hospital and later tragically passed away. His wife emphasized the importance of the donation for a greater cause, stating, "it was for a larger cause." This act of generosity is slowly helping to combat social stigma surrounding organ donation, according to ZTCC Mumbai.
