- A mother warns against kissing babies to prevent virus transmission.

A mother from Shrewsbury, Shropshire, is urging the public to refrain from kissing babies following a harrowing ordeal with her newborn son, Vinnie Murtha Grant. The infant spent three months in intensive care after contracting Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).
Just over a week after returning home from the hospital in December, Vinnie, then three weeks old, began experiencing breathing difficulties and feeding issues. Doctors diagnosed him with RSV, which rapidly led to a chest infection, pneumonia, and a collapsed lung. He also developed viral meningitis.
Vinnie was placed in a medically induced coma to aid his recovery. After a difficult three-month hospital stay, he was discharged in March and is now doing well. His mother shared her experience, emphasizing that while excitement surrounds a new baby, visitors should exercise caution to avoid unknowingly transmitting viruses.
She stressed the importance of precautions, particularly during RSV season, highlighting that even a seemingly harmless kiss can pose a significant risk to vulnerable infants.
