Summary
- Karachi recorded its first infant death due to mpox.
- The infant reportedly contracted mpox during circumcision.
- A hospital linked to the infection has been sealed.

Karachi has recorded its first infant mortality due to mpox, with a 52-day-old baby boy passing away early on Saturday. The infant had been battling the contagious viral infection for over a week and reportedly contracted it during a circumcision at an "illegal" hospital in Malir. This facility was recently sealed due to concerns over inadequate infection control measures.
Another infant patient is currently in critical condition at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital & Research Centre (SIDH&RC), with health indicators showing a poor prognosis. This child also reportedly underwent a circumcision at the now-sealed Malir hospital. This incident brings Sindh's total mpox cases this year to 98, with 12 deaths recorded.
