Dubai Returnee Diagnosed with Mpox in Multan

A patient diagnosed with mpox has been placed in isolation at Nishtar Hospital, Multan. The individual, from Muzaffargarh district, was admitted five days ago and tested positive for the virus on Thursday, presenting with fever and rashes. Laboratory confirmation was achieved through PCR-based analysis at a public health reference laboratory in Punjab.

Infectious disease specialists are overseeing the patient's care, with standard infection prevention and control protocols in place at the healthcare facility. This patient had recently returned from Dubai. The World Health Organization states that mpox typically begins with fever, body aches, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue, followed by a rash. Early medical attention is crucial for preventing complications, and WHO advises avoiding close contact with symptomatic individuals, practicing good hygiene, and not sharing personal items.
