15 Apr
Summary
- Mother died after a sudden brain hemorrhage.
- She waited over five years for a rare blood type kidney.
- A fundraiser supports her family after her passing.

Claire Boland, a mother from Stockport, tragically died on April 4, 2026, following a "catastrophic" brain hemorrhage. She had endured a difficult health journey, diagnosed with type one diabetes at age eight, which later led to end-stage kidney failure seven years ago. Claire spent years undergoing dialysis and managing various health complications, including high blood pressure.
Her battle for a kidney transplant was prolonged by her rare blood type, which significantly reduced her chances of finding a suitable donor. Five months prior to her passing, she made a heartfelt public appeal for a donor, expressing a loss of hope due to the strain on her mental health and family.
Tragically, a matching donor was never found. While at bingo with her mother and a friend on March 29, Claire experienced a severe headache, followed by symptoms indicating a stroke or brain bleed. Medical professionals determined that intervention for the brain bleed was not possible due to its location and severity.
Claire passed away on April 4, 2026, after fighting for four additional days following the withdrawal of sedation and ventilation. She leaves behind her husband, Damien, and two daughters, Ileana and Elodie. Her family has launched a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses and support her daughters.
