24 Jun
Summary
- Two MorningStar Farms plant-based products recalled due to plastic contamination.
- Consumers found plastic pieces in Buffalo Chik'n Nuggets and Sausage Patties.
- No injuries reported, but plastic poses choking and internal injury risks.

MorningStar Farms is voluntarily recalling two of its popular plant-based frozen food items due to potential plastic contamination. The affected products are the Buffalo Chik'n Nuggets (10.5-ounce bags) and the Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties (8-ounce packages). This recall was announced on June 18, 2026, and was posted by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The company decided to recall these specific batches after receiving reports from consumers who discovered small pieces of plastic in the food. While no injuries have been reported to date, ingesting plastic can present a choking hazard and potentially cause other internal injuries. This is particularly concerning for vulnerable populations like children and the elderly.
Only specific batches of the Buffalo Chik'n Nuggets and Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties are included in this recall. The Buffalo Chik'n Nuggets are affected if they have UPC 000 28989 10110 5 and "Better If Used Before" dates of July 7, 2027, or July 8, 2027. The Hot & Spicy Sausage Patties are affected if they have UPC 000 28989 10094 8 and "Better If Used Before" dates of July 5, 2027, July 6, 2027, or July 7, 2027. Other MorningStar Farms products are not affected.
The recalled items were distributed to grocery stores across the United States, as well as in Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. Consumers who have purchased the affected products are urged not to eat them. They can dispose of the items or return them for a refund through MorningStar Farms' designated process.
