On November 10, 2025, Moonlight Companies, a produce company based in Reedley, California, announced a voluntary recall of certain yellow and white peaches due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall affects peaches sold nationwide between September 16 and October 29 of this year.
Listeria is a bacterium that can cause serious illness, especially among vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of Listeria infection can include fever, nausea, diarrhea, and in severe cases, miscarriage or fatal infections. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that each year in the United States, 1,250 people are infected with Listeria, and 172 people die from the infection.
The recalled peaches include Moonlight Yellow, Moonlight White, Moonlight White ("Peppermint Peach"), and Kroger Yellow Peaches. These peaches were sold either individually or in multipacks, with affected individual peaches bearing a 4401 or 4044 PLU sticker, and affected multipacks having specific UPC codes.
