Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital has significantly expanded its emergency department, a key phase in a multiyear, $41 million renovation initiative funded by the state. This extensive upgrade triples the size of the existing emergency space.
The expansion introduces two new triage rooms and creates dedicated areas for patients with non-bed-requiring injuries. Furthermore, eleven larger patient bays have been added, designed to boost staff efficiency and elevate the quality of patient care. This overhaul aims to ensure Mount Vernon residents can access inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services locally.
The upgraded emergency department is anticipated to become operational by the end of summer, pending a state health department inspection. The hospital also plans further improvements, including new behavioral health suites and six operating rooms, scheduled for completion by next fall.
