Pregnant Mom's Chest Pain Was Cancer
23 Aug
Summary
- Chest pain during pregnancy was eventually diagnosed as pancreatic cancer.
- Initial symptoms were mistaken for pregnancy-related issues and gallstones.
- A PET-MRI scan led to the discovery of neuroendocrine tumors.

A woman experiencing sharp chest pain during her twin pregnancy initially dismissed it as a normal pregnancy symptom. The pain, which worsened over time, was later thought to be related to gallstones.
Two months after giving birth, she sought further medical attention. A series of scans, including a PET-MRI, eventually led to a diagnosis of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs).
Doctors recommended surgery to remove her spleen, half of her pancreas, and gallbladder. The tumor, initially 1.7 cm, had grown to 2.5 cm by the time of surgery on June 29, 2026.
Following surgery, she experienced a serious infection requiring hospitalization. Pathology results confirmed the cancer had reached blood vessels and lymph nodes.
She now faces lifelong monitoring for recurrence, with potential future treatment including chemotherapy. The experience has deeply impacted her, highlighting the fragility of life.
