Moderate AS Risks Double: Study Reveals Hidden Dangers
3 Nov
Summary
- Moderate AS patients with risk factors face double mortality and hospitalization.
- Over 78% of moderate AS patients had at least one risk factor identified.
- New ACTIVATE AS study will follow 700 moderate AS patients prospectively.
A recent analysis of over 53,000 patients revealed that moderate aortic stenosis (AS) patients carrying at least one risk factor experienced a two-fold increase in mortality and heart failure hospitalizations within two years, compared to those without such features. This risk was observed even before progression to severe AS.
The study, which analyzed data from the egnite Registry, found that moderate AS outnumbered severe AS nearly 2 to 1. Crucially, 78.7% of moderate AS patients had at least one identified risk factor, such as symptoms or reduced heart function.
Looking ahead, the ACTIVATE AS study, a prospective, multicenter trial, is set to begin enrollment in 2027. This study will utilize the CardioCare platform to identify and rigorously follow around 700 moderate AS patients for up to two years, aiming to better understand management strategies.
