Hidden Allergens in M&M's Spark Major Recall
7 Feb
Summary
- Thousands of M&M's bags recalled due to missing allergen warnings.
- Products were custom promotional items, not standard retail.
- Recall impacts consumers with milk, soy, and peanut allergies.

A significant recall has been issued for over 6,000 bags of repackaged M&M's due to a serious labeling oversight. Beacon Promotions Inc. failed to include essential allergen warnings on custom packaging, potentially endangering millions with allergies to milk, soy, and peanuts.
The affected products are 1.3-ounce bags of Peanut M&M's and classic M&M's, distributed as promotional giveaways, not standard retail items. These were distributed in 20 states including California, Texas, Florida, and New York. Specifically, Peanut M&M's with a 'Make Your Mark' label, lot code M1823200, and a 'best by' date of April 30, 2026, are part of the recall.
Classic M&M's recalled have various promotional labels, such as Subaru, Adobe, Xfinity, and Morgan Stanley, with specific lot codes and dates. The FDA classified this as a Class II recall, indicating potential temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, with a remote chance of serious harm.
For individuals with peanut, soy, or milk allergies, consuming these M&M's could lead to severe reactions, including anaphylaxis. The company initiated the recall on January 26, with the FDA categorizing it on February 4. Consumers are strongly advised not to consume these candies if they have allergies and to discard them immediately.
