TV Star Michelle Elman Undergoes 19th Emergency Surgery
19 Feb
Summary
- Michelle Elman had emergency surgery for a new cyst.
- She has now undergone a total of 19 surgeries.
- Hydrocephalus is the condition causing most of her surgeries.

This Morning's expert, Michelle Elman, recently underwent emergency surgery on the first day of the year, marking her 19th operation. The procedure was necessitated by the discovery of a new cyst, interrupting any hope for a fresh start in the new year. Elman shared that she received two new scars on her neck and collarbone, and humorously inquired if her tattoo was avoided during surgery.
This latest surgery brings Elman's total to 19 procedures throughout her life. Previously, she detailed having undergone 18 surgeries, including three brain surgeries and an abdominal one. She identifies Hydrocephalus as the primary cause for the majority of her surgeries, emphasizing its need for greater public awareness. Elman also noted that her brain valve setting requires further adjustment, a process expected to take months but which she hopes will lead to reduced pain.
Hydrocephalus is a serious condition where excess fluid accumulates in the brain, leading to potentially fatal pressure if left untreated. The NHS states that this condition can result in symptoms such as headaches, blurred vision, and difficulty walking. Elman had previously announced in November that she required another brain surgery due to a cyst and the need to replace a magnet used to control fluid flow.
