The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) is undergoing a substantial transformation, slated to become a super specialty hospital. This ambitious project, approved with a budget of ₹393.91 crore, aims to significantly enhance medical services and capacity over the next three years.
A key objective of this upgrade is to increase the number of undergraduate MBBS seats from the current 150 to 250 and postgraduate seats from 52 to 150. The hospital is also preparing to introduce specialized surgical services, including robotic and spinal surgery, requiring modern medical equipment and expert faculty.
In addition to MGMMCH, the health department is directing civil surgeons to prepare district sadar hospitals for a multi-speciality transformation. This includes recruiting specialist doctors and appointing 125 hospital managers to improve management systems across community health centres and sub-divisional hospitals. A new 50-bed maternity and child hospital is also planned for each district.
