The Government Hospital for Mental Care (GHMC) and the Visakha Psychiatric Society have initiated a week-long series of awareness events. These activities commenced on Monday, coinciding with National Mental Health Week.
A primary objective of this initiative is to focus on supporting young people. Dr. N. Harikrishna, GHMC In-charge Superintendent, highlighted the importance of reaching out to youth for psychological support and guidance.
This year's World Mental Health Day, observed on October 10, carries the theme 'Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change.' The organizers aim to amplify real voices for tangible changes in mental healthcare.
Various awareness drives and competitive events are underway in local colleges and hospital premises. These include essay writing, elocution, debates, poster making, and skits, fostering engagement among students.
An interactive session with the chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) is also scheduled. Furthermore, a special session was conducted at the government juvenile home for girls, where GHMC doctors and postgraduate students interacted with the residents.
