A University of Kent student, Annabelle Mackay, 21, has shared her harrowing experience after surviving a severe meningitis infection. The illness tragically resulted in the temporary loss of her sight and ability to speak. Mackay recounted her terrifying symptoms, including delirium and extreme light sensitivity, which led to her hospitalization.
She believes she may have contracted meningitis during nights out in Canterbury. The UK Health Security Agency reported 29 cases linked to an outbreak in Kent, with 18 confirmed and 11 probable. Amidst this outbreak, over 100 students were turned away from receiving meningitis vaccines at the university campus.
