Meningitis B Jabs for Manx Students Heading to UK
24 Jun
Summary
- Isle of Man students going to UK universities will get meningitis B vaccines.
- The program aims to offer over 700 students two doses of the MenB jab.
- Vaccinations are a precautionary measure against UK outbreaks, starting in July.

Isle of Man students heading to university in the UK this autumn will receive meningitis B vaccinations before they depart. The government announced a time-limited program offering the two-dose MenB jab to eligible Year 13 students and those under 25 starting university or further education in September.
The roll-out is scheduled to begin in July, with the aim of inoculating over 700 students from the Isle of Man. This proactive measure is being implemented as a precaution, following meningitis B outbreaks reported in various parts of the UK earlier this year.
Cabinet Office Minister David Ashford emphasized that the vaccination drive is a precautionary step, not a direct response to increased cases on the island or among Manx students. He also noted that students should ensure they are up-to-date with other crucial vaccinations for university life, such as meningitis C, W, Y, measles, mumps, rubella, and HPV.
