9 Sep
Summary
- Part B premiums and deductibles are projected to increase in 2027.
- A subsidy for Part D drug plan premiums will end this year.
- Some beneficiaries will pay less due to negotiated drug prices and GLP-1s.

Medicare beneficiaries should prepare for shifting costs in 2027, with changes affecting Part B premiums and deductibles. The projected Part B monthly premium is $209.50, a $6.60 increase, and the deductible is expected to rise to $292. Simultaneously, a subsidy program that reduced stand-alone Medicare Part D drug plan premiums is concluding. This program, which provided an average monthly saving of $16, was designed to help insurers adjust to the Inflation Reduction Act's Part D redesign.
Insurers are also adjusting their Medicare Advantage plans, with some trimming coverage or not renewing plans for certain beneficiaries. Open enrollment, from October 15 to December 17, presents an opportunity for beneficiaries to review and switch plans. The Inflation Reduction Act's drug price negotiation initiative will also impact costs, with negotiated prices for 19 brands, including GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy, taking effect in 2027. A pilot program offering GLP-1 medications for $50 monthly for eligible beneficiaries will continue through 2027.
